Whipworms

Whipworms are thin thread-like worms. They resemble a whip and attach themselves to the large intestine where they suck your pet’s blood. The eggs are passed in the feces but can take up to four weeks to become infectious. Once ingested, the infected eggs develop into larvae, moving from the small intestine to the large intestine where the adults mature.

Most dogs with whipworm may not exhibit any symptoms when infected, and only exhibit symptoms once the number of worms increases.

Symptoms of Whipworms in Dogs

  • Weight loss
  • Anemia (pale gums, weakness) occurs with chronic, heavy infections.
  • Mucous or blood in the stool
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite

If left untreated, whipworms can cause damage to the digestive tract and blood loss. Some whipworm infections may even affect humans.

Use Inulin PK as a prevention every 3 months.

Additional Support Tips

Keeping your dog’s living space clean and dry will also help hinder the worm, as they are rendered ineffective in dry conditions. Also, whipworm eggs take a month to become infectious so keeping the yard sanitary by promptly removing feces will help keep the worms under control.

Your vet may recommend conventional treatment for whipworms in your dog using oral deworming medicine. These can safely be used in conjunction with our natural supplements.
